Orthodox Christmas in Russia.
There is a vast majority of Orthodox chtistians in Russia and The Orthodox Christmas plays an important role in their lives. In this day сhurch servants ring the bells, and in the evenings familis gather together to have delicious meals.
Despite of the fact that New Year is the most favourite celebration for the Russians, the Christmas celebration is not less entertaining. Due to the tradion in this day the first meal people have is Kutya that is cooked of wheat grains adding honey and poppy. The most interesting Christmas tradition is thought to be performing the Christmas carols. It is the spectacular costume show that requires the special attention. Young ladies and boys wearing bright naional costumes come up to different houses in order to sing carols and the hosts thank youngsters giving a lot od sweets. The young people can take a person who plays the role of a bear and this action makes the perdorning unforgettable and bright.
The evening on the 6th of January is called the Christmas Eve. After the long-lasting feast the whole family gathers together at the table in order to have varioud delicious meals. Young ladies always predict futures or tell fortunes. In every vallage or town of Russia people know a range of variants to predict the future or telling firtunes.
